                 *****Very Important*****

PARENT INVOLVEMENT is the key  to the success of scouting….Parents are needed for
leadership roles, chairing committees, whether it be a “One Shot Deal” or an ongoing
committee, etc….There are lots of opportunities, so please GET INVOLVED!  It will mean
a lot to us and to your son!!

The Uniform

The Cub Scout program requires that all boys be dressed in the same uniform.  This is
done for several reasons.  Some of them are as follows. All Cub Scouts, when dressed
in uniform, are made equal.  They have a place to display badges, pins and belt loops
that they earn.  It gives them a feeling of belonging to a Pack.

Our requirements of the uniform is as follows: Cubs (1st thru 5th grade) wear blue jeans
or blue pants (no sweat pants), a blue scout belt with buckle, a blue uniform shirt with
the appropriate patches, the correct scarf – orange for Tigers (1st grade), yellow for Cubs
working on their Wolf requirements (2nd grade), blue for Cubs working on their Bear
requirements (3rd grade) and plaid for those working on Webelos requirements (4th and
5th grade), and the coordinating cap.  Webelos Scouts have the option of wearing the
same uniform as Boy Scout (tan uniform).

The “Den” and the “Pack”

Your son will be placed in a Den, which is a small group of boys, usually 5 to 10, headed
up by a Den Leader.  In the Den, the boys will work towards advancements (badges,
rank, etc.).  Dens will meet  twice a month, for anywhere from 1 to 1 ½ hours each time,
this is up to your Den Leader.  The meetings will take place at the home of the Den
Leader, or at another cub’s home or at a convenient location.  Parents are to be present
at every Den meeting.  Please DO NOT drop your sons off and return later.  Please note:
The Den Leader is NOT a babysitter.  If your child is acting inappropriately, it is up to you,
the parent, to take care of the situation.  We also strongly encourage you to NOT bring
siblings to Den Meetings, as this meeting is for you and your scout.

All of the dens in our group make up our PACK. Our Pack meets once a month for a
meeting where the boys receive advancements, do an activity, and have FUN.  MONTHLY
PACK MEETINGS are held the fourth Friday of every month, at the Anna Ware Jackson
School, in the cafeteria, unless noted otherwise. These meetings usually last 1 to 1 1/4
hours and the ENTIRE FAMILY may attend.  The Cubs will sit with their Den, and the rest
of the family sits behind the Dens in a designated location.  The Pack Meeting is a
FAMILY event.  Again, please DO NOT drop your sons off and return later.

The Pack meetings are for the Cubs.  They have worked hard and would love to be
recognized when they receive their awards.  We ask for your cooperation and attention at
all times during Pack Meetings.  Again, if your child is acting inappropriately, it is up to
you the parent to take care of the situation.  Or, if a sibling is being disruptive, we ask you
to kindly take the child into the lobby.

The Advancement Program

The Cub Scout Program includes a plan of advancement during which boys learn by
doing.  The Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelo rank requirements are done in the Den
and at home.  Your son will need to purchase the appropriate book for his grade level.

New Scouts in grades 1 through 5 must first complete the Bobcat requirements, with the
help of the parents.  This is done fairly quickly.  Then the boy can work toward the rank for
his grade level.

Tigers – These are boys in the First Grade. (ALL 1ST grade boys will earn their Bobcat
badge before beginning to work on their Tiger badge.) The den will be headed up by a
Tiger Den Leader.  Each month, the Tiger den does an activity together, with a parent
accompanying their son.  All the boys and parents participate in the activity as a group,
with each parent taking a turn helping the Tiger Den Leader in organizing a month’s
activity.

Wolf – These are boys in the Second Grade.  The Den will be headed up by a Den
Leader, an Assistant Den Leader and a Den Chief (Boyscout).  All parents are asked to
take an active part in these meetings to support the leadership team.

Bear – These are boys in the Third Grade.  The Den will be headed up by a Den Leader,
an Assistant Den Leader, and a Den Chief (Boyscout).  All parents are asked to take an
active part in these meetings to support the leadership team.

Webelos –  These are boys in the Fourth Grade (Webelos I) and Fifth Grade(Webelos II).
These Dens generally meet and work together to achieve their goals.  The Dens will be
headed up by 2 Den Leaders, 1-2 Assistant Leaders and a Den Chief (Boyscout).  All
parents are asked to take an active part in these meetings to support the leadership
team.

The Cub’s parents certify that he has completed his requirements by signing the
appropriate areas in his book.  The Den Leader also certifies that he has completed an
activity.  Your Den Leader will give you more information on what will be done at home,
and what will be done in Den meetings.
